Centre Reaffirms Steady Disaster Relief and Insurance Support to Kerala: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

The Union government has reaffirmed sustained disaster relief and crop insurance support to Kerala, with Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announcing SDRF and NDRF allocations and highlighting major insurance payouts under PMFBY. The Centre emphasized its commitment to aiding the state and protecting farmers from climate-related losses.

The Union government has reiterated its sustained assistance to Kerala for disaster relief and agricultural insurance, with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan affirming that all aid is being extended strictly in accordance with established national norms. Speaking in New Delhi, Chouhan expressed regard for the people of Kerala and underscored that the Centre remains committed to helping the state recover from recent losses.

According to the minister, the Central government has already released ₹153.20 crore to Kerala under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the 2024–25 financial year. In addition, ₹36.32 crore has been provided from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) during 2025 to support the state’s ongoing recovery measures. Chouhan said these disbursements reflect the Centre’s continued adherence to statutory guidelines governing disaster relief allocations.

He further highlighted the considerable benefits accrued to Kerala’s farming community under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). Against a premium contribution of ₹76.2 crore from farmers, the state has received insurance payouts totalling ₹741.9 crore directly into beneficiaries’ accounts. Chouhan described the scheme’s performance in Kerala as an example of the Centre’s efforts to safeguard farmers against climate-related uncertainties.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to agricultural welfare, Chouhan stressed that farmers across the country—irrespective of region—remain central to national priorities. He added that all eligible farmers will continue to receive support as mandated under the policy framework. “Farmers, wherever they may be, are at the heart of our nation,” he said.
